There was a horrific highway crash that killed 15 young hockey players. In tribute, people have been leaving a hockey stick outside the front door. We’re a mobile service and our home is every small town. One of our own lives there. In tribute we’ll put our stick in the truck and take it with us

The stick is a tribute to the 15 Canadian junior hockey players killed a bus crash recently.

That’s an old timer, looks maybe from the late 60s or early 70s?

For whatever reason, I love vans based on regular cars, and it’s a shame there a dying breed, even here in Europe. Interesting how this the HHR of all things, is one of the few vans with actual smooth panels and no obvious cutouts where the windows would be, if that made sense.

Only other example I can think of is the VW Caddy.

Kinda loved how the HHR van had no exterior door handles, even if I heard they’re kinda a pain in the butt.

Nice. These are minor collectibles now.

I have an ancient (maybe 50s or 60s at latest) Northland stick that I’ve long been afraid to use, as I fear it would either break up or it would ruin the unusual autographs.

It’s the last survivor. Wrecked the rest of them playing street hockey in the north end of Winnipeg in the 80's. they were old then.

It feels fragile.

Would be normally the case here too. But that’s like taking flowers off a grave, I’ll trust that nobody is that greasy.

One hard shot might be the end of it.

I’ve seen prewar sticks bring decent money. Even something this relatively recent is worth keeping, for the family connection, and they are not too common anymore.

I keep it above the garage door, Dad’s long gone, to the bar in the hockey rink in the sky. So I guess I use it to store memories and feelings. It’s probably not even the oldest stick on my street.

I think Cristian Brothers was his brand. We drove through Warroad Minnesota once, and he proudly pointed out the factory to us, like that was the point of the trip itself.

That’s cool, I actually knew someone from Warroad - a bit far from home out here. I think I mostly had Sher-wood sticks, especially the 5030 that I think has been around for at least 30 years.
